The song tells the story of two sides of the same person facing problems in a relationship with their boyfriend. This guy uses a technique called "gaslighting," which is a way of making someone feel confused and insecure by making them doubt the reality of their experiences and feelings.

In the song, Roby and Jenny are aware (and they are the same person) that their relationship with the boy is unhealthy and that perhaps it would be better to end it. Even though they want to be loved, they know that the way the guy treats them is not right.
